Rheban 0-08 A 48th minute goal from Mark Fennelly proved to be the difference between the sides in this SFL Division 3 tie which also served as Castlemitchell's own Mossy O'Reilly Memorial Tournament Final. Rheban took an early lead with a point each from Chris Gorman and John Morrissey. The latter an excellent solo score as Morrissey travelled forty five metres before slotting over under pressure. Castlemitchell quickly responded with three quick fire points from Steven Donovan, Mark Fennelly and a monster score from full forward Karol Harris. Rheban could have had the ball in the net soon after as Chris Gorman's low shot was superbly saved by Michael Lawless at his near post. Gorman did however score his second point soon after from a close range free kick. Three free kicks from Tadhg Fennin (2) and Joe Maher (1) followed, giving the home side a three point lead as the Referee blew the half-time whistle. The opening exchanges of the second half were littered with a host of wides from both teams but Mark Fennelly got the first score of the half for the men in green with a well taken point. Conor Germaine and Chris Casey replied with two points before 'Mitchell's goalkeeper Michael Lawless came forward to land a '45. Fennelly then scored that match winning goal as he was quickest to react to a Christy Byrne save which put a six point gap between the side. Rheban didn't throw in the towel though and pushed forward in search of a goal of their own and they almost got it from the next attack as Conor Germaine shot narrowly over from just outside the large rectangle. He added another point moments later before Brandan Shaw converted the final score of the match as Castlemitchell ran out three point winners. The win sees them move to the summit of this division and also retain the Mossy O'Reilly Memorial Cup. Ballyteague travelled south to play Castlemitchell on Wednesday evening (June 3rd) but left disappointed after a powerful second half performance from the home side. Rathcoffey 0-07
Castlemitchell 0-15 Castlemitchell made the long trip to Rathcoffey on Sunday afternoon and left with the league points in what was a very entertaining and open game throughout. Paul Maguire opened the scoring for Rathcoffey in the first minute after rising highest to catch a long ball into the square. Anthony Tyrrell followed up with another from a free kick shortly after. The away side took control for the rest of half however, scoring seven points in a row. Emmet Hyland scored first with a well taken point after a good pass from Joe Maher. Kieran Harris added a free before a brace of points from Joe Maher. Brendan Maher, Trevor Griffin and Ray Fitzgerald added three further points before Rathcoffey hit back with another free kick from Anthony Tyrrell. Castlemitchell's final score of the game was from the penalty spot as Tadhg Fennin's shot hit the crossbar and over after the impressive Kieran Harris was dragged down in the square initially. Jason Acton finished off the first half scoring as he reacted quickest to the rebound after a good save from Michael Lawless. It was Lawless who opened the second half scoring for his side on the restart with a long distance free kick. Mark Fennelly added another after good work from wing back Fionn O'Rourke. Tyrrell responded with another free before further points from John Fennelly, Joe Maher and two frees from Lawless and Harris pushed the away side into an nine point lead. Tyrrell landed two more points, one from a free and one from play to bring his total to five before Mark Fennelly had the final say with a superb point from play.
