Congratulations to all involved with the St. Patrick's Day Parade Float as we are once again awarded the Best Sporting Float 2015.  This is three in a row for the club with awards of Best Overall Float in 2013 and Best Sporting Float in 2014.  Presentation of the trophy was made by Ger Kelly to Jimmy Curtis in the Heritage Centre on Friday 27th March. Great credit the Athy Promoters Group for their efforts in making the Athy parade such a huge success.

SFL Div 3: Ballyteague v Castlemitchell

22/3/2015

Ballyteague 0-15

Castlemitchell 0-11

A dominant first half laid the foundation for Ballyteague to claim an opening round win at home to Castlemitchell on Saturday afternoon.

A blistering start gave the home side a three point lead after just three minutes with points from Stephen Ennis, Brian McGrath and a free kick from Seamus Hannifin. Joe Maher hit back with a close range free followed by a by a left footed shot after a long run through the defence. The Larks took control again though and scored six points in a row, two coming from Glenn Thorpe, two from McGrath and one each Padraic Murphy and Hannifin. Maher kept the away side ticking over with three points before John Fennelly added another from distance soon after but Ballyteague landed three more from Stephen Ennis, Kevin Murphy and Thorpe to give them a half-time lead of 0-12 to 0-06.

The 'Mitchells piled on the pressure in the second half and at times it looked like they could claw their way back on the scoreboard were it not for missed chances in front of goal. Kieran Harris got the first of the half before Maher scored two more frees to bring his total to seven. Hannifin, Murphy and Derrick Mooney pointed one each to keep the gap between the teams before Tadhg Fennin scored two points. Castlemitchell were then chasing a goal which never came as the home side ran out four point winners.

Best for Ballyteague were Seamus Hannifin, Glenn Thorpe, Sean Dowling, Stephen Ennis and Brian McGrath.

Best for Castlemitchell were Joe Maher, John O'Connor, Karol Harris  and Emmet Hyland.

Congratulations to all in the club, young and not so young, men, women and especially the children, who represented the club with such pride in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Athy. The excellent float was a credit to all involved and showed Castlemitchell GFC in its true light - a club with sporting, social and family attributes. This years theme was "Recycling and the Environment" . Once again it was a joy to see the green and white being paraded through the streets of Athy. A big thanks to Declan and Harris Transport for providing the transport to showcase the club and to all involved in preparing and decorating the float . Our entry this year was dedicated to the memory and celebration of the life of one of our great clubmen Stephen Fitzgerald RIP who sadly passed away. It was fitting that he received a minutes round of applause at the viewing stand. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hAnam dílis.

Castlemitchell Last Man Standing Update

17/3/2015

After seven weeks we are now down to the last 10 people in  the Last man Standing competition .Nearly all the top teams have been picked so it is getting harder to pick a winning team to be the winner of €500. We  started off with 218 entrants and after the big upset where we lost 135 people on week 2 it has taken the next 5 weeks to get to the last 10. Best of luck to the remaining people in the competition.
