SFL Div 3 Castlemitchell v Kilcullen

30/5/2015

Castlemitchell played host to Killculen on Sunday evening (23rd May) with two vital league points up for grabs as both sides looked to keep touch with Ballyteague and Milltown at the summit of Division 3 and it was the home side who emerged victorious after a one sided affair.
Castlemitchell got off to the perfect start as they goaled twice within the first five minutes. The first came as Joe Maher was allowed to travel too far into the Kilcullen defence, he passed off to Emmet Hyland who powerfully shot from close range giving Andrew Talt no chance in goals. Karol Harris added the second moments later as he collected a high ball from Trevor Griffin before rounding the 'keeper and finishing to an empty net.
Kilcullen, who fielded a very young side due to injuries, replied with points from Paul Jones (2) and Jamie Lambe to keep the visitors in touch but Tadhg Fennin, Mark Fennelly and Kieran Harris responded with a point each to leave the half-time score 2-03 to 0-03.
With a strong wind at their backs, Castlemitchell pushed on in the second half, outscoring their opponents 0-14 to 0-01. Steven Donovon stood out in the half as he landed four points from play but it was Karol Harris who opened their second half account after a good pass from Tadhg Fennin. Trevor Griffin added another at his second attempt after a great save from Talt initally. Further points followed from Mark Fennelly, Kieran Harris, Tadhg Fennin and Brendan Maher before Karol Harris scored his second of the game. Trevor Griffin and Ray Fitzgerald tagged on two final scores as their side ran out convincing winners which moves them up to third position at the halfway point in the the SFL Division 3. SFL Div 3: Rheban v Castlemitchell

23/5/2015

Rheban 0-05
Castlemitchell 0-10

Castlemitchell made the short trip to play neighbours Rheban in the SFL Division 3 and six points in the opening fifteen minutes, whilst not conceding any, laid the foundations for victory for the away side.
Tadhg Fennin (2) and Joe Maher opened the scoring with three early frees after good work from Emmet Hyland and John Fennelly in midfield. Hyland added a point of his own soon after as he made a good run through the defence.  Fennin then pointed another free before John Fennelly converted a 45'.
As the half wore on, Rheban began to win more primary possession in midfield and supply was more plentiful for their inside forwards. Adam Ryan was first to benefit as he fisted over from a tight angle after a good pass from Nathan Owens. Conor Germaine followed up with a pointed free from close range. A host of chances followed but neither side could add to their tallies leaving a half time score 0-06 to 0-02.
Germaine opened the home side's second half account with another free kick but the 'Mitchells replied with Tadhg Fennin pushing them further ahead with two excellent points from play either side of a Joe Maher free. Germaine added two further points but it was Castlemitchell who controlled the game from here on in although they only added one more score which was a last minute free from  Fennin to double the scores at 0-10 to 0-05 and also bringing his total for the evening to six points.
