Castlemitchell got their 2015 Campaign off to the perfect start with a hard earned away win against Cappagh.
The home side started the brighter and were 1-01 to no score up after 5 minutes. The goal coming three minutes in after some good attacking play, followed by a neat finish by Chris Murray past keeper Stephen Foley. Full forward Thomas Jackman then tapped over from the right hand side.
Kieran Harris got the Mitchells on the scoresheet ten minutes in, but Cappagh continued to dominate and quickly replied with points from wing back Will McDonnell, Dean Brennan and two from the excellent James Grogan.
Heading towards halftime the away side started to gain a foothold in the game, John O'Connor had a goal chance excellently saved before Brendan Maher kicked a point from distance. Joe Maher then kicked a free from close range to leave the score 1-05 to 0-03 with three minutes left in the first half. The final score of that half was to be the score of the game, Minor player David Moore kicked a pin point pass to Kieran Harris who calmly finished to the back of the net.
The second half continued as the first had left off with John Fennelly quickly landing a point before Killian Ward played through Paul McDonagh, who dummied before finishing to the top corner. Brendan Maher and Lupio Cacela kicked two more points either side of a Cappagh free from Ronan Walsh. John Fennelly kicked a point from distance before Maher landed two more frees to ensure the win. The Newtown side never gave in but just couldn't put the scores on the board as Walsh and Maher traded frees in the closing stages.
