St. Laurence's II 3-06
In the final group game of the Dowling cup, St. Laurence's were the visitors to the field. It was goal chances galore in an open and exciting game. The 'Mitchells led for most of the game but some defensive errors allowed the Larries to scrape a draw at the death.
Castlemitchell took the lead two minutes in when John O'Connor was quickest to react to what was to be the first of many saves by Larries 'keeper Richie Reddin. John Fennelly added a second point from a 45 moments after.
Three goal chances followed, the first when Joe Maher played through Kieran Harris for goal but his shot came back off the crossbar. The second, a perfectly timed tackle from full back Stephen Murphy denied Brendan Harris as he was about to pull the trigger and the third was to be against the run of play as Eddie O'Dwyer finished off a hand passing move to register the away side's first score. Karol Harris quickly replied though, with two points from play.
O'Connor was to score the final score in the first half as his powerful shot gave the home side a 1-04 to 1-00 half time lead.
In the second half, St. Laurence's were much improved and quickly landed 1-01 as Dom Grufferty's shot came off the bar and over, followed by O'Dwyer's second goal of the match. Castlemitchell could have had another goal were it not for a top class save once again from Reddin to deny Hyland when a goal looked inevitable.
Karol Harris and O'Connor then each landed points. The next score was a superb goal as Emmet Hyland gave a long ball to O'Connor who cheekily chipped the 'keeper.
The away side fought back with points from O'Dwyer, Dean Sherly, Ryan Foxinch and a well taken individual goal from Grufferty. The 'Mitchells, now behind by two, pushed for a goal in the closing stages and it came with three minutes to go as Joe Maher sent a ball into the square where Hyland palmed to the net.
Larries tied up the scores though, as Grufferty sent over a point in the dying moments to leave the final score 3-06 a piece which was probably a fair result for both teams.
