Castlemitchell made the long trip to Rathcoffey on Sunday afternoon and left with the league points in what was a very entertaining and open game throughout.
Paul Maguire opened the scoring for Rathcoffey in the first minute after rising highest to catch a long ball into the square. Anthony Tyrrell followed up with another from a free kick shortly after.
The away side took control for the rest of half however, scoring seven points in a row. Emmet Hyland scored first with a well taken point after a good pass from Joe Maher. Kieran Harris added a free before a brace of points from Joe Maher. Brendan Maher, Trevor Griffin and Ray Fitzgerald added three further points before Rathcoffey hit back with another free kick from Anthony Tyrrell.
Castlemitchell's final score of the game was from the penalty spot as Tadhg Fennin's shot hit the crossbar and over after the impressive Kieran Harris was dragged down in the square initially. Jason Acton finished off the first half scoring as he reacted quickest to the rebound after a good save from Michael Lawless.
It was Lawless who opened the second half scoring for his side on the restart with a long distance free kick. Mark Fennelly added another after good work from wing back Fionn O'Rourke. Tyrrell responded with another free before further points from John Fennelly, Joe Maher and two frees from Lawless and Harris pushed the away side into an nine point lead.
Tyrrell landed two more points, one from a free and one from play to bring his total to five before Mark Fennelly had the final say with a superb point from play.
