Ballyteague travelled south to play Castlemitchell on Wednesday evening (June 3rd) but left disappointed after a powerful second half performance from the home side.
Ballyteague, dominating possession around the middle, raced into an early lead and were six points to the good after seventeen minutes. County minor Jimmy Hyland was particularly impressive at corner forward during that period, scoring two points from play. However it was Stephen Connolly who opened the scoring with a point from play before adding another from a free in between two points from full forward Brian McGrath.
Castlemitchell then began to make their way into the game and quickly had three points on the board. Tadhg Fennin scored the first from the left before Mark Fennelly pointed two from distance but Hyland answered back soon after with his third point of the game. Goalkeeper Michael Lawless finished off the first half scoring with a '45.
Kieran Brennan got the second half scoring underway with a well taken point straight from the throw in to give the Larks a four point cushion but from that point on the home side who took control of the scoreboard, scoring 1-07 without reply. Lawless landed a long distance free before John O'Connor made his way forward from full back to score a peach of a point with the outside of the boot. Tadhg Fennin added four further points, two coming from frees either side of a brace from play. Lawless followed up with another free from a tight angle before Trevor Griffin put the result beyond doubt with a well taken goal from close range.
Stephen Connolly added a consolation score in the final moments from a free but Castlemitchell ran out winners which sees both sides go level on points in the SFL Division 3 table.
