SFL Div 5 Semi Final

29/6/2015

Castlemitchell 4-10
Ballyteague 0-09

A hat-trick of goals from corner forward Rickie Moriarty in the opening Seventeen minutes paved the way for victory for the home side in this SFL Divison 5 Semi Final. It was Darragh Moore however who opened the scoring after he won the ball from the throw in and sprinted to the edge of the square before pointing with ease. Fionn McDonald quickly added another beauty from a tight angle after a good pass from Johnny Fennell.
Moriarty then took over the scoring for the boys in green and white as he scored those three goals in an eight minute period. Mattie Quinn played a perfect pass across goal and Moriarty made no mistake for hsi first, finishing low to the net. The second was an excellent team goal involving six players moving the ball through the hands before a powerful shot high to the corner giving David Tiernan no chance in the Ballyteague goals. The third goal was sloppy goal as a high ball into the small square wasn't dealt with and Moriarty was on hand to tap to an empty net to give his side a 3-03 to 0-01 lead.
Ballyteague then hit a purple patch scoring five points in a row from Kieran Bowers(2), Shane Buckley(2) and Nathan Gannan to reduce the deficit as the half-time whistle sounded.
The away side continued to pile on the pressure early in the second half but a host of top class saves from Shane Foley in goals prevented any serious hopes of a comeback. They did point three times throughout the half with the scores coming from David Randles, Kieran Bowers and Tomás Keeley.
The 'Mitchells added seven further points from Lee Foley(2), Johnny Fennell, Rickie Moriarty(2), Matty Quinn and the point of the game from Craig Dunphy as he landed a monster point from 55 metres. Johnny Fennell added another goal on 42 minutes as he tucked the ball to the bottom corner after a superb pass from Captain Craig Dunphy.
Best for the winners were Oisín Holland-Doyle, Jason Moore, Mark Fanning, Mattie Quinn, Johnny Fennell, Craig Dunphy and Rickie Moriarty.
