Milltown 0-07
Castlemitchell 0-10
Castlemitchell made the trip to play table-toppers Milltown on Saturday afternoon and although it was low scoring, it was an entertaining game throughout with some great play from both sides.
Ian Fitzgerald opened the scoring for Milltown straight from the throw in but Joe Maher quickly replied with a free kick before John Fennelly landed a trademark point from distance with the outside of the right boot. Milltown began to kick early ball into their full forward line and it was Myles O'Reilly who benefited most as he scored three from play to push the home side into a two point lead after sixteen minutes. They could have been further ahead minutes later as O'Reilly played Colin O'Shea through on goal after a well worked move but his shot came back off the crossbar and away to safety. Karol Harris, Joe Maher and Emmet Hyland then scored a point each for Castlemitchell before John O'Reilly kicked one of his own after a mistake in defence to leave the half-time score 0-05 each.
Castlemitchell were much improved in the second half, especially in defence, as they held Milltown to just two points, those points coming from brothers Myles and John O'Reilly either end of the half. Joe Maher scored first for the away side from a close range free before Fionn O'Rourke and Trevor Griffin got one each from difficult angles. Goalkeeper Michael Lawless then came up to score a 45' from the left hand touchline before Joe Maher scored his fourth of the game in the final moments as the 'Mitchells ran out three point winners.
Best for Castlemitchell were Joe Maher, Emmet Hyland, Matthew Moore, John O'Connor and Mark Fennelly.
Best for Milltown were Myles O'Reilly, John O'Reilly, Michael Colleton and Eddie Owens and Eoghan O'Toole
