Castlemitchell 0-14
Rathcoffey 0-02
Castlemitchell gained their first two league points of 2015 as they beat a depleted Rathcoffey side in horrible weather conditions on Saturday afternoon.
It was a first half with little in the way of excitement as both teams battled the elements. Jason Acton opened the scoring after three minutes with a well taken free kick. Kieran Harris and Joe Maher quickly followed up with points before Jason Acton pointed from distance to leave the half-time score at just two points each.
With the aid of the wind in the second half, Castlemitchell took control, scoring twelve points without reply. Rathcoffey crowded the defence which forced the 'Mitchells to shoot from distance and thankfully for them, they had their shooting boots on.
Karol Harris scored the first before Tadhg Fennin pointed two frees from the right followed by another from Joe Maher from the left. Karol Harris(2) Fionn O'Rourke and new addition Stephen Dovovan added four more before Fennin scored two in a row. The latter of those scores was the score of the game as Fennin recieved the ball at the corner flag, turned back on his left and split the posts. Fennin and Maher then combined for what looked like a certain goal but a good save from Hayden in goals denied them. Emmet Hyland and Donovan then finished the scoring with two long range points as the home side ran out comfortable winners.
Best for Castlemitchell were Matthew Moore, Fionn O'Rourke, Emmet Hyland, Karol Harris and Steven Donovan.
Best for Rathcoffey were Stephen Hayden, Jamie Brilly, Martin McDonnell and Jason Acton.
