U14 Girls Feile

11/3/2015

Castlemitchell girls u.14 Feile Saturday 7th March

Round Towers hosted the group stage for the Feile on Saturday morning in very blustery conditions. Castlemitchell won the throw in and from the first attack Courtney Brennan finished to the net. The girls in green never let up and Towers found it difficult to win their kick outs with pressure from Emma Harris and Casey McConville in midfield. The forwards linked well with the pressing half back line and this led to 3 unanswered points by Amy O’Shea and Zoe Harris. Casey McConville pointed a free near the end of the half and from the kick out, Shelbianne Delaney found Zoe Harris on the 14 and she kept the ball low past the keeper. Half time Castlemitchell 2-4 Round Towers 0. With the conditions playing havoc with the high ball, Round Towers pressed from the throw in and a swirling wind carried the ball passed Chloe Hickey’s fingertips for a goal for the home side. Chloe quickly found Kerri McConville on the wing and an excellent solo run led to another pointed free from Casey. Captain Amy Byrne was playing the sweeper role to great effect and combining with Ella Rowan they worked the ball into Molly Kelly whose left foot shot rattled the net. Towers rallied again and made several attacks but Sarah Ryan and Iona Fennin stood strong and Alisha Lawler cleared the lines to great effect. The final scoreline read Castlemitchell 3-6 Round Towers 1-1 seeing the girls progress to the next stage on the 21st March. Well done to all involved, a real team performance from everyone, with Leanne and Amy to return for the next stage an exciting year awaits.

Minors Win Again

8/3/2015

Our Minor team recorded their second win in a row as a second half comeback saw them defeat Newtown Gaels on a scoreline of 4-06 to 0-13.

With a strong wind at Newtown Gaels backs in the first half, the lads had to work their socks off to keep the scores to a minimum, and they did so with superb defending from Aaron Buckley,Dale Leonard, Captain David Moore and some excellent saves from Corey Brennan with Dylan Brennan chipping in with an unstoppable shot to leave the halftime score 0-08 to 1-0.

In the second half we started to press for scores and eventually they started to come with scores from Dylan Brennan again, Darragh Moore, Fuad Adise, Oisín Holland Doyle, Conor Curtis and Robert Lovett. Again some heroic defending in the final moments meant the lads came away with a deserved victory and two more valuable league points.

They will be away to Ellistown next Sunday morning at 11:45 in Rd 5.
