Underage Reports

On Sunday last the Castlemitchell u/13 played Naas at home in the semi final of the U/13 league, this was a very
well prepared Naas team and they took control early of the match. However despite the terrible conditions , it was raining again, the Young Mitchells played some very good football to stay with their bigger rivals up to half time.
In the second half some of the younger lads on the side got going to drag everybody back into the match but looseing a number of key players through injury allowed Naas to pull away and send their tem into the final. This was a
great adventure for a lot of these players, playing u/13 football for the very  first team, as well as playing on the bigger pitch, but safe to say they handled the step up very well and no doubt progress continues with all these players. We
would like to wish Naas all the best in the final and to thank all the u/13 mentors , players and parents for their efforts at this grade this year.

Later on in the day our u/8 and u.6 teams competed in our annual field day with two great matches against two very
good Castledermot teams. Both teams played their hearts out following the magnificent parade behind the Athy and district pipe band.At the end of the match it was time for the medal ceremony and it was a great day for all.

On Sunday last the Castlemitchell  u/13 team booked their place in the league semi final with a comprehensive win
over a battling Nurney side. From early on the Young Mitchells took control and  move the back to the full forward line who took some fine scores. The second half saw the Mitchells playing with the breeze and they put up a fine score
against a Nurney team that never gave up. It was great to see so many young players getting a game and we wish them the very best in the semi final against Naas. Best wishes also to Nurney for the season ahead.

Also on Sunday last saw our u/6
team being kindly invited to the Castledermot field day. Enjoying the great day our lads and girls got to play in front of a large crowd and a the end of a great match , each player received that much awaited medal. Thanks very much to
Castledermot for the invite, I know we will see them very soon.

Tuesday night saw one of the biggest crowds ever to assemble in the field to watch two under 10 matches
against our near neighbours Athy GFC. On the first pitch the green team played their hearts out against a fine Athy side. There were some great scores on offer to keep away the winter chill as both set of supporters applauded the
Young starts of the future of both clubs. On the other end of the main pitch the Young Mitchells white team were up
against their Athy Oppenets. This was as fine match as both teams tried to play flowing football with some great combination work and scores at the end. Athy flew into an early lead and with the Mithcells coming back in the second half the crowd got behind both sides. On a great advert for Kildare football the Athy side held out and those watching left in the knowledge that both clubs had very talented footballers within their ranks. Best of luck to Athy for the
  remainder of the year.

On a summer’s day, yes we got one, last Saturday, 31 children from the club lined out in a series of 4 u/6 and u/8
matches against Athy GFC. This was a great advertisement for football, great skills on display and both sets of coaches encouraging each side in the skills of Gaelic football. At the end of the day each of the 4 teams from both clubs
lined up to shake lads, happy to have played their part for their club and for all those present it was a most enjoyable encounter. Best of luck to Athy for the rest of the season.

On Tuesday night it was the turn of the u/10 teams as 25 young children got on the bus or travelled with their
parents to Moorefield. Unfortunately the green team had to play their match in Ballymany School with the white team travelling on to the fine club grounds in Moorefield on the edge of the Currragh.
In a very highly skilled match the Castlemitchell white team put it up to the home side with some fine taking goals
and points, for those watching this team it was a great sight with some fine combination football from defence to attack. In finishing the display in the second half the young Mitchell’s proved that they can play Division 1 football
on a fine night for the club on the plains of the curragh. Down in Ballymany the Castlemitchell second team
proved that this was to be a night to remember for the club as they matched their bigger Moorefield opponents in every aspect of the game. The green  Mitchells team played their hearts out and in doing so took some fine scores and
gave the large crowd following them plenty to be happy about. The club send best wishes to Moorefield for the rest of the
season.
Wednesday night saw the young Mitchells u/13 travel to Naas to take on the home side. With 22 players togged
out this was a much anticipated match. However all did not go the way of the boys in the first half and they found themselves down to a talented home side. With some changes at half time, the lads started like a train scoring 1-3
without reply which had the home side rushing for answers. But the effort of the first 15 minutes of the half could not be maintained and the stronger Naas lads added a number of scores to run out winners in the end. However this result
still ensures a semi-final for this team and we wish them the very best in that match. Best of luck to Naas GAA as
well.

u/13 team into semi final

On Wednesday night last a young Castlemitchell team took to the field at home to a much bigger
Ardclough side in the 4th round of the u/13 league . With two wins and one defeat this was an important
match for the “Young Mitchells”. Ardclough started brightly some well taken
points, but once the Mithcells settled they produced some great football that
had the large crowd attending roaring their approval. With some fine combination
team play the lads put up a fine half time score, just before the Summer rain
arrived. With the lights on for the first time again the lads continued to play
impressive football adding to first half goals and delighting those that were
now out in the summer weather. At the end the young mithcells had plenty to
spare against a gallant and well drilled Ardclough. This win puts this team top
of the table and we wish them the very best for the rest of their league. Best
of luck to Ardclough also.
